Level39’s cohort of cyber security startups calls for greater action to ensure the UK is the most secure place in the world to do business

Today we announce the launch of the Cyber39, a new programme designed to accelerate London’s ambition to become the most secure place in the world to do business.

The Cyber39 brings together cyber security companies scaling and developing new technologies that address the global cyber threats facing the UK. The initial cohort of businesses involved in the programme includes Level39’s existing 22 cyber security businesses, the largest concentration of cyber startups in London.

The intention of the programme is to tackle growing cyber threats across the public and private sectors, establishing the UK as a leader in cyber security innovation and, in line with Government policy, ensuring that the country is the safest place in the world to do business.

This announcement coincides with the launch of the Cyber Demonstration Centre at Level39. Backed by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the Department of International Trade, the space makes world-class infrastructure available to startups in London, allowing them to showcase innovations securely.

The Cyber39 now calls on other key stakeholders from across the cyber security ecosystem to commit to collaborating in its mission to pioneering cyber innovations. Any cyber startups that apply to the programme will have access to cyber mentors and the Level39 community.

Ben Brabyn, Head of Level39, commented: “The cyber security threat is constantly evolving and poses a fundamental challenge to each and every major global industry, particularly financial services. While the Government has committed to backing innovation to address this threat, the private sector must accelerate the growth of the ambitious startups that are so often our first line of defence.

“The UK is home to countless cyber security startups that are already working with public and private actors to withstand this onslaught. However, Britain cannot simply resist cyber-attacks. The moment is now to harness the billion-dollar opportunity of cyber security innovation and ensure the UK becomes the most secure place to do business in the world. The Cyber39 seeks to enable ambitious entrepreneurs to do exactly this.”
